Born in Germany, Johann Clausen is as much a child of the 80s as he is one of nature. His photos transcend their subjects, liberating them from their function to reveal new ways of understanding them. Paying close attention to shape, texture and detail, Johann highlights the sculptural qualities of objects, celebrating their delicate nature. Characterized by daring abstract staging, his work focuses on materiality, revealing the beauty of the natural world in timeless and iconic ways.

Following his photographic practice over the past years, he has expanded into working with moving images, as well as incorporating new image making technologies, all the while maintaining the authentic features that ground his work in realism. Johann is primarily based in Germany and works across Europe and the US.
